2,000,000th Defender sold for charity… for £400,000!

The one-off Land Rover ‘Defender 2,000,000’ fetched £400,000 at a prestigious charity auction held at Bonhams in London during December 2015. All proceeds from the sale were donated to Land Rovers humanitarian and conservation partners, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), who will use the donation towards its work in Nepal, and the Born Free Foundation, who will use the funds raised to support the ‘Project Lion Rover’ conservation initiative in Meru National Park, Kenya.

Rovertune authorised to use Land Rover Online Service History

Land Rover has changed the way that a new vehicles service history is recorded.For all new vehicles purchased on, or after 1st July 2013, Land Rover Franchised Dealerships will no longer be providing with the vehicle paper service history booklets. From this date, Land Rover (via their main dealerships) will store all scheduled services, related service items and body inspections securely online.

We have seen an ever increasing trend of Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3 and 4 vehicles being brought in for service and finding no spare wheel attached to the underside of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the spare wheel has been stolen, often whilst the vehicle has been parked outside the owner’s house or on their driveway over night.

World Famous Record Breaking Disco 2

Recently one of our customers Mac Mackenney brought his revered and famous Land Rover Discovery 2 back to Rovertune for some minor repairs and modifications. This vehicle (pictured) driven by Mac, his brother Steve and Chris Rawlings broke the World Record for driving between London and Cape Town (South Africa) in October 2010, a distance of 10,000 miles, through 20 countries in a time of 11 days 14 hours 11 minutes, beating the previous record by 1day 18 hours 37 minutes set by Eric Jackson and Ken Chambers way back in 1963.

A New Era in Vehicle Air Conditioning has commenced

The EU MAC (Mobile Air Conditioning) Directive (2006/40) when put in place in during 2006 set a maximum limit of GWP (Global Warming Potential) of MAC Refrigerant gases used in new car platforms at 150 from January 2011. Then, from January 2017 the Directive stated that this standard must apply to ALL new vehicles.
