JLR to start UK tests of self-driving car technology

Jaguar Land Rover plans to create a fleet of more than 100 research vehicles over the next four years, to develop and test a wide range of Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) technologies. The first of these research cars will be driven on a new 41 mile test route on motorways and urban roads around Coventry and Solihull later this year.

We have now reached the time of year when Land Rover start announcing their new line-up of 2017 models and all of the new technologies that will be integrated into the vehicles ready for their release to the public from September 2016 onwards. The current publicity centres on the new Range Rover Sport which is being updated with new 3.0l supercharged petrol and 2.0l Ingenium diesel engines which currently power the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

Jaguar Land Rover look set to enter the SUV marketplace with its first ever road-biased model and an all electric drive train looks likely to be part of the line-up. The new Range Rover Sport Coupé has been spotted being tested again ahead of its expected launch next year and will break fresh ground by moving the brand into a sportier and more road biased territory.

Now that the Referendum vote has resulted in the UK leaving the EU, ardent Land Rover fans have been calling on the company to resurrect the iconic Defender and re-introduce production again. We all know that it was partly EU emission requirements, which the vehicle could not meet, that put the final 'nail in the coffin' and forced Land Rover to end production in January 2016.

Jaguar Land Rover has announced that it is in the early stages of developing self-driving Land Rovers for autonomous off-road driving. This development is the latest technology that will allow its next generation of vehicles to drive themselves over any terrain. Called Autonomous All-Terrain Driving, the research project aims to make the self driving vehicle capable of navigating all surfaces, in all environments.
London Mayor announces new T-Charge for pre-Euro 4 vehicles

If you own a pre- Euro 4 petrol or diesel vehicle and want to drive into, or through central London, you will have to pay an additional £10 on top of the existing £11.50 congestion charge from next year. This means owners of affected vehicles, generally those registered before 2005, will have to pay £21.50 to drive through central London during enforced hours.

It is sometimes difficult to comprehend, as it almost seems like yesterday, to realise that Land Rover's compact SUV the Range Rover Evoque has been in production now for 5 years. This milestone was reached on the 4th July 2016 at Jaguar Land Rover's advanced manufacturing facility at Halewood, near Liverpool, where over half a million Evoques have been produced there since 2011.

Land Rover Discovery Sport pulls 108-tonne train

Land Rover has demonstrated the pulling power of their popular new Discovery Sport SUV by pulling three luxury train carriages weighing 108 tonnes on a 10km journey through the Rhine region of northern Switzerland. The trains total weight was 60 times that of the Discovery Sport and also the equivalent to the weight of a Boeing 757 aircraft.
